please before giving your credit card number to any website be very much careful about the website.
also check for the genuine quality of the website.
some friends also told that there is some kind of mischief over paypal account,
some friend did not purchase anything from any website, they were informed by paypal that they have purchased thing from online sites.

I would say that trusted websites are those which have secure pages for applications, are well established, are not one page websites with dead links, have contact form and preferable address or phone.
I would also advice -- Never give your personal information if you are not on secure page. Look at the URL bar and there should be "https://..." (what stands for secure server) instead of "http://..." and on a right bottom side of a browser window you should see a small lock attached.
Also I'd say - never click on links that are send from unknown people or institutions to your mailbox as often there are phishing emails. Haven't you got emails from "banks" like -- "... please update your profile by clicking the following link ..." . Stay away from this kind of emails and delete immediately.
